Soft relines Vs hard relines: which one to choose?

The patient’s requirements, oral health, and overall situation serve as the primary factors in determining which relining method is most appropriate for them. Your dentist will be able to guide you toward the denture reline option that is most suitable for your needs. Although the denture reline cost is quite affordable, it still depends on the type of denture that is being used, either a complete denture or a partial denture. If you are about to get your first denture reline then here are two types of dentures that you may need to know:

Soft denture reline

There are many situations in which soft relines are preferable. Patients who have only recently begun using dentures and are experiencing more rapid bone loss may find this procedure to be more comfortable than others. This is especially true for patients who have only recently begun using dentures. In most cases, a reline of a soft denture can be performed in the dentist’s office. The denture is given more dimension through the application of a liquid polymer by the dentist. The patient then provides the dentist with feedback regarding the denture’s sensations in order to assist the dentist in fitting it securely.

In most cases, soft relines  can be completed in a very short amount of time. When soft reline denture is performed in an office, the patient does not have to wait for the dentures to be returned from a lab, which is one of the benefits of this procedure. On the other hand, due to the nature of the material used, soft denture reline may require more frequent relining.

Hard denture reline

A hard reline denture is constructed with more long-lasting material than a soft reline. The procedure is comparable in its fundamental aspects. Hard relining typically lasts for many more years than soft relining and can be performed either in an office setting or in a lab.

Because of problems with the material that is used, many dentists advise their patients to use a lab. However, patients with gums that are particularly sensitive may experience discomfort during the hard relining process. In such circumstances, the application of hard relines  might result in sore spots.
